The Indiana Department of Transportation has the released the Final Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision regarding the final section of the I-69 expansion. INDOT says the 26-mile stretch of interstate between Martinsville and Indianapolis will increase economic and improve safety and travel times.
The 1,700-page impact statement affirms the use of State Road 37 between Indy and Martinsville as the route for Section 6 of the project. It also includes recommendations on roadway right-of-way, locations and types of 10 interchanges, placement of 13 overpasses and underpasses, as well as construction of 18 miles of new local access roads.
INDOT says among Marion, Morgan and Johnson counties, Section 6 of the I-69 expansion will generate $4.1 billion in economic impact over 20 years. The new interstate will result in more than 1,300 fewer crashes each year and an 11-minute reduction in travel time.
INDOT’s website says construction on the final phase of the project is expected to begin in fiscal year 2020.
