Final Event to Honor Indiana at 200
Indiana turns 200 Sunday and the Indiana Bicentennial Commission will celebrate with a final event. Ignite The Future is a free family activity at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis that caps off a year of events, projects, and announcements.
Commission Co-Chair Becky Skillman says "since 2011 the Commission has worked to make this year special for everyone in the state. It’s hard to believe the year is almost through, but Ignite the Future will leave Hoosiers with wonderful memories of this time in Indiana history." The program will include a mix of speakers, music and dancing. Entertainers include The Hunter Smith Band, the Indianapolis Children’s Choir and Voices of Unity Youth Choir. The list of speakers includes Rabbi Sandy Sasso, KP Singh, Ala’a Wafa and Matthew Myer Boulton.
Some notable moments throughout the celebration include the October dedication of Bicentennial Plaza between the Indiana Statehouse and state government buildings in downtown Indianapolis and the protection of 11,000 acres through the work of the Bicentennial Nature Trust, launched in 2012.
