The group that manages the professional sports and convention venues in Indianapolis has approved nearly $5 million for improvements to Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Our partners at Network Indiana/WIBC report the money is part of a previous announcement involving nearly $27 million for upgrades at the 15 year-old arena. Last year, $160 million in tax money was approved for use by the CIB to pay operations and improvement costs and keep the Pacers at the venue for at least 13 additional years.

The current batch of upgrades will include new carpeting, flooring and 19 replacement LED boards.

CIB President Ann Lathrop says future improvements will be made to heating and cooling systems and elevators and escalators.
