As Pacers Sports & Entertainment gears up for the inaugural season of the NBA2K esports league, the organization is making executive moves. Chief Operating Officer Rick Fuson says Indiana Fever President and General Manager Kelly Krauskopf has stepped down as GM to broaden her focus on the esports business.
Fever Head Coach Pokey Chatman will become general manager and Krauskopf will remain as president of the team, overseeing basketball and business operations. Krauskopf was placed in charge of the esports business in July.
"We are fortunate to be able to widen Kelly’s duties to include oversight and direction of our esports business, and to have an experienced general manager on hand in Pokey to work with Kelly in continuing to keep the Fever as one of the WNBA’s most successful franchises," Fuson said in a news release.
In an interview last month on Inside INdiana Business Television with Gerry Dick, Krauskopf said having the Pacers as one of 17 NBA teams taking part in the league is a "groundbreaking" opportunity and one that has already attracted new potential sponsors. The Pacers in May announced its participation in the NBA2K esports league. Four months later, the organization appointed Cody Parrent as director of esports operations, a position that reports to Krauskopf.
