Federal Contracts Detail $95M of Work at Crane

The U.S. Department of Defense has announced six contracts totaling $95 million for projects at Naval Support Activity Crane. It involves new construction, demolition and renovation of facilities as well as infrastructure work. Contractors include Building Associates Inc. in Bloomington, Jasper-based Krempp Construction Inc. and Midnight Sun Global Services LLC of South Bend. Companies from Michigan, California and Alabama are also involved. Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick recently profiled the major Indiana Uplands region employer and the final piece focused on the history of Crane.
Crane employs some 5,000 Hoosiers — mostly civilians — and Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division Commanding Officer Mark Oesterreich detailed focus areas of the 60,000 acre-plus property.
The full scope of the recently-detailed work is expected to take around five years and the DOD says it will all be performed in the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Mid-Atlantic Public Works Department Crane responsibility area. One specific project involves $1.9 million to renovate a break room at Public Works Department Crane, which is slated to be complete by October of next year.
The Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Mid-Atlantic in Virginia is the contracting activity.
