Our partners at WPTA21 in Fort Wayne report a Senate resolution was approved by a 27-12 vote. Purdue University President Mitch Daniels and the Purdue Board of Trustees expressed support for Carwein continuing in the position.
Nearly 110 tenured faculty members supported the Senate’s no confidence statement. The school’s four vice chancellors – Carl Drummond, Angie Fincannon, George McClellan and David Wesse – issued a joint statement supporting Carwein.
The Senate statement reads "BE IT RESOLVED, that the Fort Wayne Senate has no confidence in Chancellor Carwein’s leadership at this critical time in IPFW’s history." In its statement, the Senate cited reasons including:
- Carwein’s failure to adequately represent IPFW and Purdue board interests in response to a Legislative Services Agency working group’s recommendations on the school’s future.
- Carwein’s lack of commitment to "operationalizing" the campus’s 2014-2020 strategic plan
- Her lack of adequate steps to strategically address budgetary challenges amid five years of declining enrollment and revenue
