(Nasdaq: FB) says a national tour focusing on high-tech training will stop in Indianapolis in October. The Community Boost initiative is part of the social media giant’s efforts to beef up the digital skills of 1 million business owners and workers throughout the country by 2020. Indianapolis is part of a 50-city tour and Facebook Global Marketing Director of Small Business Doug Frisbie says the training, which is free and open to the public, will benefit anyone of any digital skill level.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, Frisbie described what makes Indianapolis a good fit for the visit. "Number one, Indiana is a great place to do business," he said. "We conducted a wave of research across the country and one of the things that we learned in Indiana is that 84 percent of small businesses said that digital skills and social media were really important to their business success, but we know a lot of jobseekers don’t necessarily feel like they have those skills. And so, we feel like we’re uniquely positioned to help bridge that gap with this training." He says the program is particularly focused on those transitioning to to careers requiring more high-tech skills.
