News Release

Evansville, Ind. — The Tri-State Manufacturers' Alliance, a program of The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana, will explore the current state of manufacturing during its third quarterly event 8 – 10 a.m. Sept. 5 at Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center, 1901 Lynch Ave. in Evansville.

Guest speakers will be Indiana Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann and Karen Kurek, McGladrey’s National Manufacturing Practice Leader. Kurek will discuss global and national manufacturing and distribution trends, while Lt. Governor Ellspermann will share information on statewide trends and specific initiatives Indiana offers these industries.

The most recent McGladrey industry report suggests that manufacturers and distributors are optimistic about growth. Eighty-five percent of companies polled are expecting sales to increase, and more than two-thirds indicated they are planning to hire to fill new jobs within a year; however, these companies are also far less optimistic about external factors, such as government policy, that are beyond their control.

Kurek, partner and managing director with McGladrey, leads the firm's National Manufacturing & Distribution Practice and is considered the “Voice of Manufacturing” for McGladrey and all of its manufacturing professionals across the nation.

Lt. Governor Ellspermann served one term in the Indiana House of Representatives before being elected to her current office. An industrial engineer, she founded the business consulting firm Ellspermann and Associates Inc., and in 2006 was appointed director of the University of Southern Indiana’s Center for Applied Research.

The event is free for TSMA members or $40 for non-TSMA members. To register contact Lydia Johnson, business services director at the Chamber, at (812) 425-8147 or ljohnson@ccswin.com.
