An event designed to connect a group of college job-seekers with Indiana-based advanced manufacturing companies is set for Wednesday in central Indiana. Exploring Advanced Manufacturing Solutions in Hancock County will bring together three manufacturers and students from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. October 14, 2014

News Release

Manufacturing firms in Hancock County, Ind. will join together on October 15, 2014 to mark Manufacturing Day, a growing grassroots movement in which manufacturers nationwide partake in initiatives to draw attention to career opportunities in the manufacturing industry. “Exploring Advanced Manufacturing Solutions in Hancock County” is an inaugural event developed by Hancock County-based manufacturers including include Bastian Solutions, Genesis Plastics Welding and Proportion-Air.

This Manufacturing Day event is an opportunity to connect directly with job-seeking students and draw greater attention to the outstanding opportunities that a career in manufacturing can provide. Thirty students and faculty from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will participate in the day sponsored by the manufacturers and supported by the Fortville-McCordsville Chamber of Commerce and The Hancock County Economic Development Council (HEDC).

“Hancock County Economic Development Council is excited about being part of this event with three great companies in Hancock County and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology,” says Skip Kuker, HEDC director. “Our community continues to grow, being the 3rd fastest growing community in the State of Indiana, we will be able to show these bright students not only a career pathway, but our great community.”

Kuker cites Hancock County's strategic location, diverse workforce and growing population as key factors to the county's recent growth. Within the last year Hancock County has been home to eight major company expansions – totaling over 1,200 new jobs and $250 million worth of investment. The continued development and expansion of business within the area make the county ripe with opportunity.

“Manufacturing, especially here in Fortville and Hancock County,” says Tom Ryder CEO of Genesis Plastics Welding, “offers a growing number of well-compensated opportunities in engineering, production and professional services. Manufacturing Day gives us a great platform on which to come together with fellow businesses to address our collective hiring and growth challenges. In the end, we all have the same goal of helping our communities thrive.”

According to the Indiana Manufacturers Association, Indiana is one of the top manufacturing states in America in wealth and jobs created, sustained and supported. More than 50 percent of all employment in Indiana has some connection to manufacturing. This event intends to attract future engineers to opportunities in the growing counties surrounding Indianapolis.

“We're excited to be opening our doors to the students and faculty of Rose Hulman,” says Bastian Solutions CEO Bill Bastian, II. “There is a tremendous amount of growth that will result in high-paying technology and manufacturing jobs. We want to do our part in sharing that manufacturing is a thriving industry and we'd love to see these talented students choose businesses in Hancock County.”
