The Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau has approved $2 million in funding for a proposed downtown convention hotel. The Courier & Press reports the money will be used for projects including a parking garage and sky bridges. Last week, Evansville's redevelopment commission approved a project development agreement with the Missouri-based builder. Mayor Lloyd Winnecke called that approval a “critical step” for the $74 million project.

The mayor expects to seek final approval on the proposal next month. A series of public meetings on the hotel begins this week.
