A new hockey team is getting ready for its first game in Evansville. The Evansville ThunderBolts will hit the ice Friday night at Swonder Ice Arena. Vice President of Media & Broadcasting Terry Ficorelli says it’s the only elite junior league hockey team in the state.
“Because of the success of the Evansville Icemen, there was significant interest in this junior team. It will create some new and more hockey fans in Evansville,” Ficorelli said.
The new junior hockey team is part of the NA3HL. There are currently 34 teams in the league.
Scott Fankhouser serves as head coach and general manager of the ThunderBolts. The team currently has 19 players, ages 17 to 20. Nine of the players are from Indiana.
The Evansville Thunderbolts will take on the Point Mallard Ducks of Decatur, Alabama Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Evansville.
