The official dedication of the new $16.5 million baseball and softball facility will take place Saturday, when the park hosts its first tournament. Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau Director of Marketing & Communications Laura Libs expects the “premiere complex” to attract up to 200,000 new visitors each year. Several community leaders including Deaconess President Linda White will speak at the dedication. The ceremony will also include a city proclamation and the official first pitch.
The Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau says it built the 8-field softball complex using specified funds from the Innkeepers’ Tax collections. The CVB will continue to operate, market and maintain the complex.
Libs says there are 22 tournaments contracted through the 2015 calendar year.
The complex is located at the intersection of Heckel Road and North Green River Road in Evansville near the Goebel Soccer Complex. Deaconess Sports Park will have eight baseball/softball fields and will host youth and adult tournaments.
The city of Evansville says Deaconess Sports Park is projected to attract 180,000 to 200,000 new visitors a year.
