Evansville opens downtown DORA

Evansville is the latest Indiana community to implement a designated outdoor refreshment area, or DORA.
The city launched its DORA on Friday, allowing individuals 21 years and older to purchase alcoholic beverages from approved establishments and carry them outside within the DORA’s boundaries.
The Evansville City Council passed an ordinance in March to establish the Downtown Evansville DORA, which was approved by the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission last month.
Adam Trinkel, executive director of the Economic Development District in Downtown Evansville, told our partners at WEHT-TV that the timing of the DORA coincided with the city’s Fourth of July celebration.
“We have about 35,000 people that enjoy the fireworks show,” Trinkel said. “In terms of the timing of when it was able to launch we thought it was a great connection to our largest event of the year.”
More than 20 downtown Evansville establishments are participating in the DORA, including Patsy Hartigan’s Irish Pub, Hush on Main, and Bally’s Evansville Casino & Hotel.
