Evansville leaders will this afternoon release details of a new downtown master plan. The city says the announcement will mark the first update to its downtown vision in 15 years.

The Master Plan Update was developed by a team led by Denver-based Progressive Urban Management Associates. The group also included Evansville-based Hafer Design and Rundell Ernstberger Associates in Indianapolis. This afternoon’s event will include project announcements and renderings.

The plan is part of continuing efforts to draw new business and talent to the city and improve quality of life. Last week, the city announced the opening of an enrichment center aimed at helping families break the cycle of poverty and homelessness and said it would use a $100,000 grant from the Institute of Child Success to conduct a feasibility study on a financing model for expanding access to pre-K education. Earlier this year, DSM Engineering Plastics America, a unit of a Netherlands-based company, announced plans to expand its Evansville operations. The project is expected to create up to 25 jobs by the end of the year.
