Our partners at WEHT-TV report the 139-room Hyatt Place Hotel has begun taking reservations ahead of its March opening.
Plans for the hotel were first announced in October 2016 and construction began in March 2018. The hotel is located on the southeast corner of Second and Chestnut streets and the hotel parking lot will be located on the site of the former Scottish Rite Cathedral.
The hotel was originally slated to take a year to complete, however the project saw several weather-related delays, according to WEHT.
When the project was first announced, Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke said would create jobs and impact the downtown area “for decades to come” by generating property taxes that previously had not existed because the site had been owned by a nonprofit organization.
