Indiana University School of Medicine-Evansville has received a $2.5 million grant from the charitable arm of Evansville-based Koch Enterprises Inc. The gift will fund the associate dean and director of IUSM-Evansville position, which will be called the Koch Chair in Medicine. Steven Becker, who has served as the school’s director, is the first to carry the new title.

The school’s new home, the high-profile Stone Family Center for Health Sciences, will be dedicated next week. It will include space for IU, University of Evansville and University of Southern Indiana students, courses and research. The new, $70 million facilities will be featured this weekend on Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick.

IU School of Medicine Dean Jay Hess says the additional funding and the Stone Family Center will be “instrumental” in attracting students and talent to downtown Evansville. IU School of Medicine-Evansville currently enrolls 66 students and is one of nine medical campuses in the IU system.

Koch Foundation President and Koch Enterprises Chairman Bob Koch says "supporting a distinguished institution to produce world-class health care professionals in our area is important to our team members living and raising families in the tri-state community. It’s gratifying to know that Indiana University School of Medicine-Evansville in combination with the University of Evansville, University of Southern Indiana and area hospitals will continue to provide visionary leadership in medical education for generations to come."
