Bryan Bourdeau says three different Startup Weekends have sprouted outside of Vanderburgh County and the event at the University of Southern Indiana has been a catalyst for multiple new ventures. Startup Weekend Evansville, Bourdeau adds, focuses on "learning, networking and launching," with a heavy emphasis on the latter.
In an interview on Inside INdiana Business With Gerry Dick, Bourdeau described what else has grown from six previous versions of the 54-hour idea-to-business gathering. "Some of the unique outcomes of that have been other Startup Weekends, because the model is so replicatable, which we encourage," he said. "The Station cowork(ing) space that’s at (the Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville’s) Innovation Pointe — our economic development organization — came out of Startup Weekend, a five-year-running meetup called Evansville Tech On-Tap, focused on technology, has come out of Startup Weekend, as well as apps, technology, some drone technology, mushroom growing kits, it’s really across the board."
Startup Weekend Evansville 7.0 is open to all students and members of the community within the region and includes coaching and networking opportunities for anyone from developers, designers, educators, students and potential entrepreneurs. You can connect to more about the event by clicking here.
