An Indianapolis based engineering firm has announced a new equity partner. Mak Knowles will also be vice president of operations at HWC Engineering. He previously served as a partner at Indianapolis-based American Structurepoint Inc. May 20, 2014

News Release

Indianapolis, IN, (May 19, 2014) – HWC Engineering is pleased to welcome aboard Marlin A. “Mak” Knowles, Jr. as an equity partner and Vice President of Operations.

A Professional Engineer (PE), Knowles is an industry leader and is the immediate past president of the Indiana chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC).

“We are extremely excited and humbled that Mak will be joining our talented team of individuals,” said HWC President Ed Jolliffe. “His unrivaled commitment to excellence will be an outstanding addition to our company and will immediately contribute to our efforts to be Indiana’s premier consulting firm.”

Prior to joining HWC, Knowles was a partner and Vice President at American Structurepoint. He served in a variety of leadership positions over 20 years including leading the firm’s business development, construction inspection, federal, and forensic investigations groups.

“I’m very excited to join a firm whose leadership has a clear track record of driving growth while caring for its employees,” said Knowles. “When I decided it was time for a change it was important to me to find a firm possessing the qualities I was looking for; namely a commitment to technical excellence, a passion for driving economic development for its clients, and a commitment to seeing its employees succeed professionally and personally,” continued Knowles.

“This is a great day for HWC Engineering, its employees, and its clients,” said Terry Baker, Executive Vice President. “Having known Mak for more than a decade, we knew immediately there was no one better to help mentor our staff and assure outstanding quality for our customers. Our commitment is to grow opportunities for our employees and to better serve our clients. Today’s move dramatically increases our ability to do both.”

This is the latest exciting news for HWC, its associates, and its clients. The firm’s management group, led by Jolliffe and Baker, acquired majority interest in HWC Engineering last summer. Since the transition, HWC has successfully delivered a number of public-private partnerships, bolstered its economic development offerings and signed the largest infrastructure design contract in the firm’s 25 year history.

HWC Engineering is a full service consulting design and engineering firm providing transportation, water, wastewater, site development, planning, landscape architecture, and project management services to clients in the public, private, and institutional sectors. Recognized as one of the premiere engineering firms in the Midwest, the firm’s accomplishments include being a recipient of the Indiana University Top 100 Growth Award, being recognized as a Top 50 design firm by Midwest Constriction magazine, and a recipient of multiple projects awards by the American Council of Engineering Companies. The firm is ranked as a “Top 25” civil engineering firm by the Indianapolis Business Journal.
