The board says Sparks "did not fulfill management expectations" for the electric cooperative.
Sparks’ termination is effective immediately and the board says the search for a new CEO has begun. In a post on the UDWI website, the board says the decision came after an internal audit by Carmel-based accounting firm Blue & Co.
"The findings of the audit did not reveal any specific problems or incorrect information on our members’ accounts or bills," the co-op’s statement said. "Information from the audit pertaining to individual staff members will not be released based on UDWI employment policies."
Sparks had been placed on a paid leave of absence prior to his termination. A previous news release issued June 20 said Michael Chapman and Shane Smith will continue to serve as interim CEOs.
In that same news release, UDWI said a separate federal investigation is underway and the cooperative’s leadership continues to cooperate with investigators. No other details were released.
