Endowment Awards Millions to Summer Programs

Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc. has announced more than $2 million in grants to support youth summer programs throughout the state. The funding is part of a collaboration among 10 partners to support more than 175 organizations providing summer programming.
The endowment says the low-cost and no-cost programs will serve around 63,000 people from age 4-18. They include activities in sports, arts and culture, academics, youth employment and service learning. In addition to the $2 million in grants, the organization has awarded more than $700,000 to 37 organizations for capital projects, including the purchase of vans and technology upgrades.
Lilly Endowment and the Indianapolis Foundation formed the Summer Youth Program Fund in 1995 to help streamline the grant application process for schools, arts organizations, religious communities and other nonprofit organizations.
