Emmis, Smulyan Agree on Contract

Indianapolis-based Emmis Communications Corp. (Nasdaq: EMMS) has re-upped with founder and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Smulyan. The contract runs through at least the end of February 2022. Provisions in the agreement with Smulyan, who is also the chairman of the Emmis board, include automatic renewal each year unless the company or Smulyan decide otherwise.
The company has been attempting to get itself on better financial footing in recent years through measures including selling all of its publications except the Indianapolis Monthly and several well-known radio assets in New York, St. Louis and Terre Haute. The company’s portfolio includes stations in Indianapolis, New York and Austin, Texas, as well as a social impact marketing arm, live event pricing technology provider and smartphone radio application platform.
