Elkhart Manufacturers Growing
Two manufacturers are planning expansions in Elkhart. Shield Restraint Systems Inc. and Cleer Vision Tempered Glass LLC have received tax abatement approvals from the City Council on proposals that call for a total of more than 50 new jobs.
Shield Restraint Systems and parent Kingfisher/Elkhart LLC of Montana plan to invest nearly $11.5 million into technology and equipment upgrades. The company wants to add 40 jobs that will pay an average salary of $47,000 per year. It will receive a five-year tax abatement. Shield Restraint Systems makes seat belts and other restraints for clients in vehicle, seating, aftermarket distribution and child safety seats industries. Its Americas headquarters is in Elkhart and it has offices in England, The Netherlands and China.
Cleer Vision’s $830,000 investment is expected to create 11 jobs that would pay an average of $38,000 annually. The council approved a three-year tax abatement. Clear Vision manufactures windows, glass and other components for recreational vehicles, buses, specialty vehicles and ambulances.
