They are among 18 students who competed in the 19th annual European Competition last week.
The students participated in either culinary, baking and pastry, or event management competitions at the event. DeEdra Robinson, Rachel Bonkoski, and Julie Lowry won the culinary competition; Tasha Fullington, Jeanette Win, Teresa Thurston, and Joanne Holscher the baking and pastry competition; and Brenda Zemaitis the event management competition.
“I’m pretty critical of them, and I’m quick to point out when things are good,” says Mike Bentz, a hospitality administration adjunct instructor and one of the culinary judges. “I’m hard on them, too, because you have to be. I get it: They’re students. They’re here to learn. But they’re getting a great big award for this.”
The students will visit and take classes in European restaurants and vineyards when they travel to France in the spring.
