A new nonprofit is designed to build on the state's education reform efforts. The Institute for Quality Education is taking over the activities of School Choice Indiana and the Educational Choice Charitable Trust. June 18, 2014

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, June 18, 2014 – Today, officials from School Choice Indiana announced the launch of the Institute for Quality Education, an Indianapolis-based nonprofit organization focused on improving the quality of education for all Indiana students.

The Institute for Quality Education (IQE) will undertake all functions previously provided by School Choice Indiana and Educational Choice Charitable Trust. The new nonprofit aims to build upon the success of those organizations and the state’s innovative education reform efforts.

The Institute for Quality Education seeks to inform and empower parents and schools by:

• Promoting policies that work

• Providing information resources, and

• Conducting research that showcases the power of choice for individuals and for Indiana.

IQE supports policies to improve the quality of education for all kids — whether they attend a traditional public school, public charter school or private school. The organization will continue to advocate for student-centered policies that create strong accountability for schools, recognize and reward great teachers, expand school choice, and ensure equitable funding for all schools.

In the pursuit to improve education across Indiana, IQE is committed to helping Indiana achieve measurable improvements through their “5-10-10 Wins” plan by 2017, which includes:

• 5 percent increase in student achievement

• 10 percent fewer failing schools, and

• 10 percent growth in number of choice scholarship schools.

“Indiana has a proud history of developing and implementing innovative education policies that work, and we will continue to improve the quality of education for all students, regardless of ZIP code, under our 5-10-10 Wins plan,” said Betsy Wiley, President of IQE. “It’s our hope that in this next era of advocacy, IQE will also provide the leadership and resources that parents, educators, legislators, and community leaders need to champion education improvement in Indiana.”

As an education organization created by Hoosiers, for Hoosiers, the Institute for Quality Education has formed a coalition of organizations, educators, parents, civic leaders and policymakers dedicated to improving Indiana by making a quality education available to all Indiana students.

“I'm truly excited about the launch of the Institute for quality education, as it will be the only state-based education reform group in America that comprehensively covers all aspects of K12 education reform,” said Robert Enlow, President and CEO of the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice. “Once again, Indiana is at the forefront of improving education in America.”

About the Institute for Quality Education:
