A $3 million lakefront project in East Chicago is underway. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the first phase of the effort involves new amenities and infrastructure improvements at Jeorse Park. Improvements to the park include a splash pad, picnic shelters, lighting and landscaping.

Mayor Anthony Copeland says the project is part of about $30 million the city is making in infrastructure work and other improvements.

The city held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday for the Jeorse Park project.
