The DWD says it has applied for the Lost Wages Assistance program, which could give an additional $300 a week to eligible individuals.
To be eligible for the assistance, the department says Hoosiers must already receive at least $100 under existing state or federal unemployment assistance programs.
“Claimants must continue filing a weekly voucher & meet eligibility requirements,” the department said.
If approved, the DWD says it plans to begin providing LWA funding within 3-4 weeks. Commissioner Fred Payne tells our partners at WFYI the delay is because the money doesn’t come from the U.S. Department of Labor.
“So it’s going to take a little bit of extra effort on our part in terms of moving staff to build a new system,” he said. “That system requires us to look at some new infrastructure.”
The DWD says payments will be retroactive to August 1.
