A more than $70 million downtown economic development project in Evansville is in line for a key approval. The city council is expected to vote in favor of the convention hotel Monday night, one week after delaying a vote on the proposal. Changes to the financing plan prompted more council members to voice support for the effort. The council has a special meeting set for Monday.

The new financing plan lowers the city's investment in the project, while increasing private funding.

Several local employers stepped forward to support the project financially, including Old National Bank.
