Indianapolis-based OneAmerica is making a $1 million donation to honor outgoing Chief Executive Officer Dayton Molendorp. The gift will help Wheeler Mission Ministries and the Brookside campus of The Oaks Academy. March 28. 2014

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS (March 28, 2014) —The companies of OneAmerica today announced a $1 million charitable donation in honor of departing CEO Dayton H. Molendorp. The gift, which will be shared equally by Wheeler Mission Ministries and The Oaks Academy, Brookside, recognizes Molendorp’s leadership to OneAmerica and in the Indianapolis community.

“On behalf of the board, we are so proud of the leadership Dayton has provided to this organization and how much it has meant to the community,” said Jim Morris, member of the board of directors for OneAmerica and president of Pacers Sports & Entertainment. “We want to say thank you to Dayton for everything he’s done for OneAmerica and the city of Indianapolis.”

Molendorp selected Wheeler Mission Ministries and The Oaks Academy, Brookside to receive the $500,000 donations to be made by OneAmerica’s wholly owned subsidiary, American United Life Insurance Company (AUL) and OneAmerica Foundation, Inc., respectively. Wheeler Mission plans, in part, to use the donation to hire a director of food services who will oversee all five of its kitchens.

“By adding a director of food services, we can improve efficiency of our ministry. Currently, each site manages itself, including getting donations, creating menus and ordering supplies,” said Rick Alvis, president and CEO of Wheeler Mission Ministries. “We are extremely grateful for this donation and all the ways Dayton supports Wheeler Mission.”

The Oaks Academy, an independent faith-based school founded in1998, focuses on renewing lives and rebuilding the city of Indianapolis. Now serving 560 students on two campuses, The Oaks will honor Dayton’s request to use the $500,000 gift to provide scholarships for low-income children and to help pay for the school's expanding campus. The Oaks charges tuition on a sliding scale according to a family’s income, and approximately 80 percent receive tuition support.

“I am honored to have these donations made in my name,” said Molendorp. “Both of these organizations are close to my heart, and their missions are essential to improving the quality of life in our community.”

Molendorp will retire as CEO on March 31, 2014, and will remain as non-executive chairman of the board of OneAmerica and its parent company American United Mutual Insurance Holding Company (AUMIHC). Scott Davison, CLU, ChFC, who was named president in August of 2013, will become CEO effective April 1, 2014. Davison also was elected to the AUMIHC board of directors in January.
