George Donaldson received the Distinguished Hoosier Award today as part of the 50th anniversary of his purchase of the business. The honor recognizes Hoosiers who have "brought admiration and respect to the state" through their accomplishments and character.
George and his late wife Peg Donaldson purchased the business in October of 1966 from Charles and Eva Callane. At the time, the store was located in an abandoned, two-room school house north of Lebanon. Donaldson’s moved to its current location in Lebanon in 1973. The company will host an open house on Saturday, October 15.
Donaldson says it’s been a pleasure "to satisfy the tens and thousands of customers who have purchased our home-made chocolates from around the globe the past 50 years." In a release, he said, "Over the years, we have made our chocolates the old-fashioned way – with fresh creamery butter, rich whole milk, pure cane sugar, top quality chocolate and a lot of Hoosier pride. It’s a difference you taste immediately and never forget."
During an Interview with Inside INdiana Business, Donaldson gave advice to the next generation of small business owners.
