‘Do Not Call’ List Registrations Jump

Attorney General Curtis Hill commended the Supreme Court's decision.

The Indiana Attorney General’s office says its campaign to get Hoosiers signed up for the Do Not Call list has led to the highest number of registrations in a single quarter in nearly six years. More than 330,000 people signed up for the list by February 21, which Curtis Hill’s office says is the first of four deadlines this year. 

Of the 332,748 Hoosiers who signed up by the deadline, 224,386 of them were new phone numbers registered to the list. Hill’s office says duplicate phone numbers and invalid numbers were purged from the list. 

The push for registrations was part of the "Do Not Call/Do Not Answer" campaign launched earlier this month. The attorney general’s office says those who signed ahead of the deadline will receive fewer telemarketer calls beginning April 1.

"I am extremely proud of Hoosiers who took our office seriously and followed the necessary steps to avoid unwanted phone calls," said Hill. "In the process, they have educated themselves on how to avoid falling victim to criminals trying to scam them over the phone. Our efforts will continue. We still have three more deadlines this year, and Indiana residents can expect the same efforts from our office to make sure all who are not on the Do Not Call list get registered."

However, Hill’s office says people who are registered may still receive phone calls from random, unknown numbers, in which case they are being advised to ignore the call. The next Do Not Call list registration deadline is May 16. You can find more information by clicking here.
