The university says Aspire at Discovery Park will be the first apartment community on the West Lafayette campus to feature tech-centric living with an integrated smart home experience.
The three-building, 831-bed complex will open before the university’s academic year begins on August 19. Purdue says Aspire will include the IOTAS smart home technology allowing students to control building access, apartment lighting, locks and thermostat from a smartphone app.
"Today’s students desire smart home technologies that accommodate their connected lifestyles, and the high demand for this community in the pre-opening phase reinforces that notion," said Bob Shepko, president of Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions, which is developing the complex. "Our goal is to stay attuned to and ahead of what students want in their living environments, and we feel we’ve done that at Aspire at Discovery Park."
The complex will offer studio, two-bedroom, and four-bedroom apartments. The apartments will feature a variety of amenities, including a smartphone video intercom system to identify people at the building’s front door, the ability to issue virtual keys for guest access, individual and group study areas, a food hall, 24-hour fitness center, and gaming center, among others.
Aspire is the first development in the more than $1 billion, 450-acre Discovery Park District, which also features office and business spaces, parks and trails, research facilities, and industrial and manufacturing facilities.
