Discovery Center to Remain Open Under New Ownership
A hospital-operated daycare facility in Johnson County previously planned for closure will now remain open. Our partners at the Daily Journal report the Discovery Center in Franklin will be taken over by Compass Park, formerly known as the Indiana Masonic Home, at the beginning of next year.
The facility’s current owners, Johnson Memorial Health, said in August it would close the center due to low enrollment. The Discovery Center has primarily served hospital employees as well as the public, though enrollment fell after the daycare moved away from the hospital campus, according to the publication.
"This is great news for our community, the families who utilize the center and the employees," said Larry Heydon, chief executive officer of Johnson Memorial Health. "We extend sincere gratitude to Compass Park for their willingness to take on ownership of Discovery Center and additionally to Johnson County REMC in allowing operations to continue at its current location."
Mike Spencer, CEO of Compass Park says those who work at the Discovery Center will transition from being Johnson Memorial employees to Compass Park employees.
