The organization’s board says the decision comes as Dig IN works to develop a new strategic plan, with the goal of continuing work to support local food communities throughout the state.
The organization is working with nonprofit consulting firm Hedges and Associates to develop the strategic plan, thanks to a grant from the Central Indiana Community Foundation. The board says it is "critically important" to focus Dig IN’s time and efforts on the initiative.
"While it was a difficult decision to take a step back from hosting this premier local-food event that we’ve become known for, we realize it is the best way to maximize our capacity development as an organization, and work towards continuing our mission in ways that support the changing landscape of local food in Indiana," the board said in a statement on the Dig IN website.
Dig IN was formed in 2009 and hosts a variety of events throughout the year to connect people with local independent businesses and farming communities.
