Mawr Design Inc. has unveiled a four-story mixed-use development designed to attract approximately 150 residents. City of Kokomo Development Specialist David Tharp says the city has approved site plans for the 84,000 square-foot project, but are still waiting for interior layout designs from KipCor Inc.
Tharp tells Inside INdiana Business, Indiana University Kokomo is IU's fastest-growing satellite campus and is unlikely to build housing anytime soon. He says the downtown project will be a short shuttle ride from near City Hall to campus and could be a “big draw” for college students.
He says the city issued a request for proposals to develop the property, currently a parking lot, where the project will sit and Mawr and KipCor were the only offers.
Another dormitory-like housing project is slated to open this fall near the IUK campus.
