Demolition Appears to be in Elmhurst High’s Future

A historic high school in Fort Wayne will be demolished. Our partners at WPTA21 report Texas-based Hanson Aggregates Midwest LLC, which earlier this month agreed to acquire the Elmhurst High School property, couldn’t find a viable use for the building. The quarrying company has agreed to pay Fort Wayne Community Schools $600,000 for the land where the old school sits and an adjoining tract of farm land.
Following a district consolidation, Elmhurst High School closed in 2010. The school corporation held an auction in 2012 to sell equipment from the nearly ninety-year-old building. The facility is in need of heavy renovations.
WPTA21 reports Hanson Aggregates plans to set up walk-throughs in the coming months.
