Carmel-based Allegient has announced plans to expand its headquarters and add nearly 70 jobs by 2018. The business and technology consulting firm says it will invest more than $1 million to renovate and equip unused office space at its Hamilton County operations. Chief Executive Officer Greg Gallant says the company is looking to leverage "the explosion in demand for services in the analytics and big data space" to double in size in the next three-to-five years. Allegient expects wages to be more than double the state average.

The company says it will hire analysts, developers and architects. Allegient says it will also hire a dozen new college graduates as part of its New College Grad Training program. Gallant says the company started that program after Indiana’s growing tech sector increased the competition for top talent.

Allegient currently has more than 160 employees in Indiana and nearly 240 in total The company also operates an office in Chicago.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered Allegient more than $1.2 million in conditional tax credits and training grants based on the job creation plans. The city of Carmel has already approved additional incentives.

Allegient’s expansion is the latest sign of tech sector momentum in central Indiana and throughout the state. The IEDC says the companies, including Eleven Fifty, Rook Security, Appirio, Emarsys and Kinney Group, have recently announced plans to create nearly 4,000 jobs in the coming years with average salaries topping $78,000. The IEDC says about one-fifth of its projects this year have been in the tech sector.
