Granger-based ITR Concession Co. says the 80/90 PUSH work is expected to be complete before 2018.
The work includes repaving 73 miles of the toll road, renovating more than 50 bridges and installing fiber optic lines to provide real-time traffic and road condition data for future high-tech systems. It will be led by Goshen-based Rieth-Riley Construction Co., the company that built the road more than 60 years ago. 80/90 PUSH is the largest project involving the 156-mile roadway since its construction.
Work zones for the first phase will be set up between mile markers 20 and 30 as well as 43 and 51 in northwest Indiana. ITRCC says plans call for one lane to be open a majority of the time in an attempt to minimize disruptions.
The ITRCC announced its aggressive completion timeline last month.
