Deadline For Bicentennial Torchbearer Nominations Extended The Bicentennial Torch Relay will run 52 miles through Elkhart County on Tuesday

The Indiana Bicentennial Commission has extended the deadline for Indiana Bicentennial torchbearer nominations. Hoosiers can now submit nominations for people to carry the torch in the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay through January 31.

The torchbearer nominations are meant to recognize Hoosiers who demonstrate exceptional public service, excellence in their professional, acts of heroism or volunteer service to their neighborhood, community, region or state. The bicentennial torch will pass through all 92 counties from September 9 through October 15, ending at the grounds of the statehouse in Indianapolis.

“Being selected as an Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay torchbearer is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Hoosiers,” Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann said. “We look forward to honoring Indiana’s history while also optimistically looking forward to the future during this momentous event for Indiana.”

Those interested in nominating someone to be a torchbearer can click here to see the requirements for nomination and to fill out the nomination form online.
