The health system bought the property for $3.4 million, though what will become of the site is not yet known.
The land acquisition was made with two transactions, according to the Vanderburgh County Assessor’s Office. The deals closed on Dec. 12 and Dec. 17, respectively.
The land is located near the intersection of U.S. 41 and Inglefield Road in Scott Township. That’s just northeast of the town of Darmstadt and about 11 miles north of Evansville.
In a statement to Inside INdiana Business, Deaconess said while there are no current specific plans for the site, the land purchase was made to ensure the health system is “well-positioned to support future health care initiatives or services as the region continues to develop.”
“At Deaconess, we are continually looking for opportunities to grow and expand in ways that align with our mission to serve the health care needs of our communities,” the health system said in the statement. “As the northern part of Vanderburgh County continues to experience rapid growth, we recognized the importance of being prepared to meet the evolving needs of this community.”
Deaconess operates nearly two dozen hospitals in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
