Day Nursery Receives $1 Million Grant

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Day Nursery Association of Indianapolis is delighted to announce its receipt of a $1,000,000 capacity-building grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. The grant will be implemented over three years in support of key goals outlined in Day Nursery's strategic plan for 2014-2016; including increased staff retention, expanded programming, and improved marketing and communications.
Historically, the primary role of Day Nursery has been to provide safe child care for working parents. Over time, Day Nursery and other high-quality early childhood agencies have implemented educational curricula and employed highly-trained teachers to prepare young children for school success. Day Nursery's Child Care Answers program also plays a significant role in training early childhood educators across central Indiana.
Day Nursery's President and CEO Ted Maple said of the grant, “we are excited and honored to receive this grant from the Endowment, which will help Day Nursery continue to be a leader in early childhood education. This funding offers us the precious opportunity to effectively grow in strategic, sustainable ways.” Maple continued: “Day Nursery provides much more than child care. We work alongside parents, teaching our young ones to be strong students, citizens and leaders. Kindergarten teachers notice when a child comes to them from a Day Nursery-caliber program. That child is ready.”
The mission of Day Nursery is “to assure the highest level of early childhood education for children in central Indiana.” Day Nursery is the largest nonprofit, full-day, early care and education provider in central Indiana. Day Nursery centers meet national accreditation Level 4 Paths to QUALITY standards. Only 11 percent of child care centers and ministries in central Indiana meet these criteria. Day Nursery has the capacity to serve 888 children, six weeks to age five, in its eight centers. Day Nursery is committed to serving families of all socioeconomic levels and offers tuition assistance to families in need.
