A Massachusetts-based data storage and information management services company has announced plans to close its Indianapolis location. In a notice to the state, Iron Mountain Inc. (NYSE: IRM) said nearly 70 employees will be laid off as a result.
The company says “circumstances” are forcing the closure of the facility. The closure is expected to begin August 28 and continue through September 25.
“This decision was very difficult and not taken lightly,” a spokesperson said in an email to Inside INdiana Business. “We’ve worked hard to assess customer needs in this area and the difficult macroeconomic conditions we are in. The resulting closure is an outcome of that assessment in this part of our business. In particular, this location supports a customer project that is winding down and the work is subsequently ending. “
Iron Mountain says the closure is expected to be permanent and all employees at the site will be affected.
