Cummins Moves Closer to Indy HQ Completion
Construction on the new Cummins facility in the Market East District began mid-2015.

(NYSE: CMI) says the company hopes a new global Distribution Business headquarters in downtown Indianapolis will be its legacy to the city. Cummins officials gave an update Thursday on construction of the more than $30 million building, which is located where Market Square Arena once stood. Marya Rose says it will offer a different experience for employees and help with recruiting and retention.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, she said the company plans to open the 170,000 square-foot building early next year. Employees who currently work in Indianapolis will move into the new building along with some employees from Columbus. Rose says Cummins hopes more workers could also be added in the future. The company has been based in Columbus for nearly 100 years and Rose says "for the last 10 years, we’ve had a small office in Indianapolis and what we’ve found is that we have been able to recruit people to Indianapolis sometimes easier than we can to Columbus." She adds, "Indianapolis turns out to be an incredible and vibrant and growing community. So when we were thinking about expanding, of course we wanted to be in Indiana, and we thought Indianapolis would be the place to be."
In addition to offices, the high-rise also includes conference space and a parking garage. The building is part of the burgeoning Market West neighborhood that has been the site of significant growth in recent years. Rose says her move-in date is January 9 and construction efforts are "going towards the end." Officials broke ground on the project in April 2015.
The Distribution Business sells the full range of Cummins products in more than 190 countries. The Cummins corporate headquarters will remain in Columbus.
