Culver Academies has named Douglas Bird director of the Culver summer schools & camps. He graduated from Culver Military Academy where he became artillery battalion commander and eventually regimental commander. Bird is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and previously served in the Marine Corps. He received his doctorate from Ball State University.

Bird previously served as principal of Center Grove High School and before that served as assistant principal of operations and student services at Carmel High School. He also taught at Carmel High School and Northview Middle School.
