Culture Matters: Milhaus

An Indianapolis real estate company is among those fueling a trend of leveraging a positive work culture to attract and retain top talent. Milhaus, which announced plans last year to expand its Indianapolis headquarters and add up to 250 jobs, says it aims to achieve that goal by treating its employees the same way it treats its residents. In our monthly Culture Matters segment, FirstPerson Chief Executive Officer Bryan Brenner discusses the company’s efforts.
Milhaus was founded in 2009 and currently has about 250 employees. It has properties in markets including Indianapolis, Cincinnatti, Louisville and Memphis and will soon be expanding to Pittsburgh and Kansas City, Missouri. The company’s Indiana portfolio includes Indianapolis and Carmel properties such as Artistry, Mozzo and Penn Circle.
The company says its employees work in a space very similar to where its residents live. Milhaus adds that it makes perks available to residents also available to its workers, regardless of whether they live on a company property. In addition, employees have passes to the Pacer bike share program, and many use them to conduct business at various properties.
