A more than 30-year-old company on the northwest side of Indianapolis is continuing to grow in an industry that has gone through a period of rapid change. Our Culture Matters segment this month features Business Furniture, which FirstPerson Managing Director Mark Minner says has focused on not only evolving to serve clients big and small, but also put a major focus on community. Business Furniture touts several big-name companies among its clients, such as Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE: LLY) and Columbus-based Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI).
"When you think about the size and scale of companies like that even down to smaller businesses and the impact that that makes, not only from a hard dollar perspective, but from a day-to-day employee engagement perspective, it’s huge," Minner told Gerry Dick in Studio(i). "So if you are not a company that is taking a dose of that medicine and you’re not a company that really finds a way to evolve your own staff and that kind of change management and that kind of thinking, then they struggle. But Business Furniture has found a way to do that."
Minner says an effort to engage employees when it comes to life events, both good and bad, has created a family atmosphere within the company. He says that atmosphere shows in the type of people that Business Furniture is able to attract and retain.
