Crown Point Begins Work on Bulldog Park

Officials in Crown Point have broken ground on a more than $10 million park project. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report Bulldog Park will include an event center, Olympic-sized ice rink, splash pads and an amphitheater. 

At the groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday, Crown Point Mayor David Uran said the 2.5-acre park will have the capability to host a variety of events, including concerts, weddings and hockey games. 

"This will have something for everybody," said Uran. "Whether you live here, work here or just come here and play. This will be an attraction in our community to bring tax and tourism dollars in. This project will preserve, protect and enhance property values in the city going forward."

The city acquired the property near Wheeler Middle School from the Crown Point Community School Corp. in 2017. The project is being funded through a $4 million donation from the Dean and Barbara White Foundation, with the rest coming from tax increment financing dollars, according to the publication.

Uran says the city expects the ice rink, which will serve as the home rink for the Crown Point Bulldog Hockey Club, to be ready by December. The two-story, 1,600-square-foot event center will also replace the civic center in downtown Crown Point.
