Crane Planning Job Growth in 2019
Crane Army Ammunition Activity is the second largest tenant at NSA Crane.
Naval Support Activity Crane is planning to add to its already large workforce in 2019. The naval installation has released hiring plans for the next fiscal year that includes adding more than 400 jobs between its two largest commands.
Radius Indiana says the decision to add more jobs is the result of a need to meet demand from the U.S. Department of Defense for "key activities unique to the technical capabilities, facilities and expertise found at Crane." The new positions will include government and contract employees across multiple disciplines.
Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane plans to add 368 new employees, and also backfill 187 jobs based on anticipated attrition, according to Radius. Meanwhile, Crane Army Ammunition Activity is seeing an increased demand for advanced manufacturing workers who receive specialized training, especially with the upcoming opening of the new Crane Flexible Manufacturing Complex, and plans to add 45 jobs.
Joe Mikac, chief of staff for CAAA, says the new employees will go through an onboarding process to ensure they have an adequate amount of safety and rudimentary ammunition training.
"As the economic development partnership for the region, we view Crane as a key catalyst for economic growth," said Radius Indiana Chief Executive Officer Jeff Quyle. "Adding high-wage, high-skilled jobs makes direct impact on our area’s economy, but the way in which Crane engages partner organizations, private industry and academia as part of its collaborative, working team means that growth at the base is only the first wave of positive impact we will see in our region and across the state."
