The Porter County Council has approved funds to bail out the 122-year-old Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the theater was facing a financial crisis that could have forced it to shut its doors. The venue says it will make changes to operate more successfully, including increasing visibility in the community and improving communications with county officials.

The council voted 6-1 to send $50,000 in local income tax revenue to the Memorial Opera House. Councilman Jeremy Rivas was the lone “no” vote, saying there were more pressing needs in the county.
