The South Bend Common Council has approved tax abatement for a $1 million batting and training facility at Four Winds Field. The project, funded by Silver Hawks Owner Andrew Berlin, could begin next month and be complete in April. The eight year's worth tax breaks are estimated at just over $100,000.

Plans call for the facility to be available to the Silver Hawks and visiting Minor League teams, as well as the public.

The approval comes on the heels of last week's announcement that the team is switching its affiliation from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Chicago Cubs.

The club will also be changing its name and uniform.

A press conference for further details on that announcement is set for Thursday.
