The Fort Wayne City Council has approved the use of $2.5 million from the Legacy Fund for the high-profile Landing project. The more than $30 million project includes revamping existing buildings and demolition at the old Rosemarie Hotel site in a historic portion of the city’s downtown.
A statement from Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry’s office says the funding for The Landing "shows our collective effort to continue the momentum and investments we’re experiencing in the City of Fort Wayne." It says quality-of-place projects of this kind boost talent retention and attraction efforts and "The Landing will serve as a gathering place and provide a unique setting for housing, retail, office and restaurant options in a live, work and play environment that people and businesses are seeking. The Landing will combine the rehabilitation of historic buildings with art, culture and entertainment to draw a diverse and engaged demographic to our urban center."
Cincinnati-based The Model Group was named developer of the project last year.
